The Palakhi ceremony of Shantibrahma Shri Eknath Maharaj is the only major Palakhi (procession) from Marathwada to Pandharpur. The tradition of Wari has been going on in the family of Nath even before from Saint Bhanudas Maharaj, the grandfather of Nath. Bhanudas Maharaj says, “Amuchiye Kuli Pandharicha Nem | Mukhi Sada Naam Vitthalache |” Nath has continued this tradition and gave it a grand form and appealed people - Mazya Vadilanche Daivat| Krupalu Ha Pandharinath | Pandharisi Javu Chala | Bhetu Rakhumai Vitthala ||
After the Samadhi of Nath in 1599, his son Haripandit Maharaj has continued this grand tradition. He had started the tradition of carrying the Paduka of Shri Nath on his head for Ashadi Wari. Within a few years, the padukas were carried through the palakhi. The same tradition has been perpetuated by the next generation of Nath's descendants. Departure and Daily Schedule: On Jestha Vadya Saptami tithi the Palakhi of Shri Eknath Maharaj departs from the Nath Mandir, Shrikeshtra Paithan to Pandhari. At the front and back of the chariot the Dindyas as per the serial number/ in specific order moves forward with chanting “Bhanudas-Eknath.” The Dindi of the descendants of Nath remains first at the front side of the chariot. Kakada, Bhajan, Gaulani and Bharudas are performed in each Dindi on the way of the Palakhi. In the evening the Haripath of Shri Dnyneshwar Maharaj and Haripath of Shri Eknath Maharaj and the Bridavali is recited. After passing through many small and big villages, the palakhi comes to the place of the rest. Aarti is performed by singing the Abhanga “Sharan Sharan Ekanatha” of Shri Tukaram Maharaj. After the Pooja and offering Naivaidya to Padukas, Kirtan and Jagar is performed.
The entire Palkhi ceremony is planned by the descendants of Eknath Maharaj. Devotees remain overenthusiastic when Nath comes to their village. People flock to take the Darshana of the Padukas of Nath. On Ashadh Shuddha Dashmi, the palakhi enters Pandhari. Shri Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palakhi, Shri Tukaram Maharaj Palakhi is followed by the Palakhi of Shri Eknath Maharaj. The Palakhi rests at the Shrieknathmandir (Temple of Shri Eknath Maharaj) at the Nath Chowk till the full-moon day. There, daily the Kirtana of the respected members are performed. Nagar Pradakshina is scheduled on Ashwin Shukla 11, whereas the Abhishek and Naivedya to Shri Sant Bhanudas Maharaj Samadhi at the Garuda Mandapa is scheduled on the Ashwin Shukla 14 (Shri Bhanudas Chaturthi). On the full-moon day, Kala is performed at the main pandal at Shri Vitthal Mandir. On full-moon day, at noon, the Palkhi starts its journey to the direction of Paithan. The Paithankar organizes a grand welcome of the Palakhi on Ashwin Vady 11..
